I enrolled at Bisque Studios as a complete beginner during the final term of 2025, based on the studio’s description that the course was suitable for people with no prior experience. In practice, the course did not deliver the level of instruction, guidance, or support that a beginner would reasonably expect. Across 6 sessions (approx. 16 hrs), the level of instruction was extremely limited. The instructor spent most of each class working on her own personal pieces. There were no structured demonstrations, no step-by-step explanations, and very little active supervision. Questions were answered briefly and inconsistently, leaving beginners unsure how to proceed or how to fix mistakes. As a beginner, I expected guidance, feedback, and engagement. Instead, I was largely left to teach myself, which made the experience stressful and unproductive rather than educational. After raising these concerns midway through the term with management, not only was there no improvement, but the level of engagement with beginners appeared to decline further. By the end of the course, 7 out of 8 of my completed pieces could not be located, apparently due to disorganisation around labelling and handling of student work. Regardless of the explanation, losing multiple completed pieces after a full term reflects poor organisation and lack of accountability. I raised these issues formally and respectfully with management, as the course clearly did not meet the expectations set by their own advertising. The response was dismissive and fell well short of a meaningful attempt to resolve the situation. For context, after this course in Jan 2026 I attended a single introductory session at Lygon Street Pottery, also as a beginner. That studio is significantly larger, far better organised, and professionally run. The instructor was more knowledgeable and actively engaged, providing clear demonstrations, structured guidance, and constructive feedback. The equipment and materials, including the quality of the clay, were noticeably better and much easier to work with. In that one introductory session alone, I learned more than I did across all six sessions at Bisque Studios. That comparison made it clear that my experience here was not due to unrealistic expectations, but to shortcomings in instruction quality and class management. I am sharing this review so prospective students, particularly beginners, can make an informed decision and avoid committing time and money to a course that may not meet their expectations.
